Accent Chairs

Accent chairs have their place in nearly any room or capacity where an extra touch is needed. There can be a small chair anywhere that it would be nice to have a sit. Traditionally accent tables are often padded however it is possible to use a unique hard surface chair as well. It is even acceptable to use benches and chaises as accent chairs provided they are not sofas. Yes accent chairs have a million uses. For the sake of this article we will focus on these charming additions for reading areas, bedrooms, retail environments, offices, and breakfast nooks.

Reading Areas

Nothing can compare to curling up with a good book except perhaps the movies or television. A simple reading area can be created anywhere using an accent chair, side table and reading lamp. The chair can be large and soft for lounging or smaller if it is better not to fall asleep. Side tables are a kind of accent table that are ideal for reading areas because it is nice to have somewhere to set things. The light source could be placed on this surface as a table lamp, or take the form of a floor lamp. Such an area can be useful in dozens of situations, usually ones that involve reading.

Bedroom Chairs

One great place for a reading area, if there is the extra room, is the bedroom. These private antechambers provide excellent circumstances for quiet contemplation. This is perfect for reading a book. Accent chairs are not reserved exclusively for reading though. In fact it is a good idea to have a resting place in the bedroom other than the bed. This way it is possible to sit down and kick off your shoes without messing up the covers. If there is company, many times it is not appropriate for a guest to sit on your bed. This is especially true in the setting of a dorm room or a studio apartment.

Retail Environments

Oftentimes in a retail environment there are people accompanying the shopper who grow tired and look for a place to sit down while they wait for their friend. Sometimes it is an elderly relative or a bored child or a tired husband. In this situation it would be wise to have several accent chairs scattered throughout the shop. Customers such as these would be elated to have a place to rest their sore feet while they set down their parcels. Perhaps they could place them on a nearby table. It depends on a combination of factors including the size and layout of the shop a well as the floor plan.

Office Seating

In an office there are often occasions when guests arrive and they need a place to sit. This can be in the corner of the room across from the desk or out in a conference room or reception area. Two accent chairs that are appropriately placed near each other can be ideal for meeting. Oftentimes such a seating environment feels friendlier than a table or a desk. That is probably why they are employed in medical situations where a doctor or counselor needs to speak with a patient for long periods of time. Depending on the type of work being done an accent chair provides welcome escape from the desk.

Screened Porches

A screened porch is wonderful because it feels like an outdoor room. Since they are relatively protected from the elements, it is possible to decorate them with a wider range of seating. This s a great opportunity to employ all sorts of accent chairs. Then there will be a comfortable place to sit while enjoying the fresh air. Use a padded chair on a covered patio to read a book, watch the sunset, or take a light meal. If a lamp outside is too much then there is always a wide range of attractive candle holders to choose from. Ornament the area by hanging up a metal wall plaque or an interesting accent table.
