Lamps As A Center Piece

Center pieces are not just for weddings, they are also great for dinner parties and holiday meals. Perhaps you have a large table and like to rotate it seasonally. There are many reasons why a center piece might be for you. But most of them consist of one or both of two things: flowers and candles. Neither of these things usually lasts for very long, indeed most flowers and candles have an expiration date that shrinks with heavy use. They are wonderful however for center pieces which really only need to last for the duration of a fine meal. This makes them a wonderful opportunity to flex the creative side without the results being too permanent. In this way making center pieces is similar to cooking or ice sculpting. Just like ice crystals no two center pieces are exactly alike. There are an infinite number of ways to manufacture beautiful center pieces for any occasion using objects such as decorative flora, candleholders, glassware and ceramics, basketwares and other pretty things.

Decorative Flora

Flowers are the preferred method of decorating a center piece especially for romantic occasions such as weddings. Do an Internet search for center pieces and over ninety precent of the pictures you see will contain some kind of floral arrangement. When deciding upon a floral arrangement you may want to consult with a professional florist. But it can be easily accomplished on one's own with enough flowers and containers. Take into consideration the time of the year and use blossoms which fit the season accordingly. For example roses are lovely but in nature they only bloom in late spring and early summer.

Candleholders

If the center piece is meant for an evening of entertainment then candles and candleholders are a must have. The simple joy of staring at a small flame while we eat is difficult to match. More so the better if there are dozens of tiny lights peeking out from the corner of the eye. Many designers are doing wonderful things with votive candles which are small enough to tuck into any number of candleholders. The standing candleholder is a traditional look when topped with a tapered candle, especially when they are multi-tiered. Pillar candles do well in hurricane lamps or on an elaborate candle stand.

Glass and Ceramics

Glass and ceramic vases, bowls and jugs are wonderful for holding up decorative floral arrangements. Containers can stand alone or be filled with any kind of arrangement made from materials like sand, glass, marbles, water, foliage, fruits or vegetables, stakes, sticks and candles. The nice thing about using glasswares in this situation is that it is translucent. Many professional designer take advantage of this property of glass by filling the base of the container with beautiful objects to complement the floral arrangement on top of it.

Basketwares

Like a cornucopia of bounty baskets can be set upon a table to decorate the festivities. Woven basketware is another great kind of container for holding floral arrangements, as well as fruits and vegetables or other decorative objects. Baskets will give a center piece a rustic look that compliments country décor and outside eating environments. Try filling one with decorative gourds and squashes or an assortment of exotic fruit. It is not uncommon in the field of design to see a combination of edibles with a bouquet of flowers or sticks with ornaments hanging on them.

Pretty Things

The classic pairing of flowers and candleholders sometimes makes way for other objects in a center piece. There are many ways to make a center piece special with decorative objects other than flowers and candles. The table dressing can incorporate other items such as ceramic animals, vintage bottles, standing words and little wooden signs. Oftentimes it is fun to add these bits of décor to the center piece amid the flowers and candles.  If the table is being set for a festive occasion consider the theme of the occasion as well as the time of the year when building a center piece.
