Lamps For Reading Areas (and Other Decor)

Wholesale lamps are the single most important aspect of building a reading area because without light it is impossible to read. Obviously next in the line of importance would be some kind of reading material. It is possible to sit on the floor and read provided one has both of these things in their possession. But it is not very comfortable since oftentimes reading involves sitting in one place for an extended period of time. That is why most designers choose to incorporate a couch or padded chair into their reading area set ups.  You can build a lovely reading area that people will want to linger in for hours using a chair, lamp, bookshelves, tables and decorative items.

Table Lamps

Since the invention of electricity the table lamp has been the quintessential source of light for reading. Luckily around the same time they figured out a way to mass produced printed books. Table lamps are convenient because it is easy to reach across the accent table from a padded chair to turn the switch on and off. Even if it is day time a table lamp can be helpful by providing a stronger source of light thereby reducing strain on the eyes. A lamp on a table may be accompanied by other objects in order to maximize the appeal. In a pinch a standing floor lamp is another option for reading areas.

Padded Chairs

Comfortable chairs or perhaps a sofa are excellent options for reading spaces because they are better for sitting on during longer periods of time. With an arrangement as simple as a single accent chair and table accompanied by a reading lamp an area for reading can be created. This is an ideal grouping in situations that involve tight quarters. If the space being dealt with is particularly narrow a bench might be a good idea. Benches can be dressed up with padding and cushions to make them more attractive and suited for sitting. Dress up a chair with a throw or decorative cushion for a cosy effect.

Book Shelves

It is an opportune situation for book shelves to be located in close proximity to reading areas. That way there will be less of a distance to go to sit down and start reading. This applies when there are a large amount of volumes to pore over, perhaps for the purposes of research. Even if you are setting up a place for reading in the home or place of business, a small shelf of books adds to the overall effect. Since books are so attractive, they can be used on the shelving units in order to create an impression of a space meant for reading and research. Wall shelves are a good choice for smaller areas.

Accent Tables

Accent tables can be side tables, coffee tables, hallway tables and more. They are useful for both holding up table lamps and stacks of books. Side tables are commonly used to flank a seating area. It looks better if there are two side tables for a couch or one for a padded chair. Similarly coffee tables, or a broad, flat and low surface, can be placed in front of a sofa. Coffee tables are generally used in larger seating areas which employ multiple seats, similar to what one would see in a living room. Hallway tables, so called for being so narrow, can be placed behind sofas to hold stuff behind the seat.

Decorative Items

Decorative items are the designer's chance to really get creative because there are a limitless number of possibilities. When choosing home décor to adorn a reading area consider the style or them that you are want to build. Libraries often employ a traditional furnishing scheme that includes classic table lamps, artwork and sculptures or vintage inspired rugs. For more of an eclectic look such as in a café there are a variety of choices like tin signs, canvas prints and ceramics. Those who favour a modern approach can keep décor minimal and sleek with metal items, glassware and boxes.
