The term "liberty glass" was coined years after the end of the American Revolution, when freedom from British rule over the colonies ended taxation on glass, lead and, of course, tea, and at just over 7 inches in width and 10 1/2 inches in height, our beautiful Liberti Square Cannister is a wonderful replica of pieces made during that time.
Glass goods can be both decorative and utilitarian. This one stands on a pedestal with a flat base and a vase shaped stem. The body is a squat round with a rounded bottom edge and a hand blown look. The lid fits snuggly and overhangs the body with a billowing curve, and a mushroom cap handle has a smooth clean feel in the hand. Used as a candy jar for after dinner mints, or to hold coins, herbs and spices, keys, stamps, or anything else, this is a piece that fits nicely into many decors.
