Pill boxes were seen as early as the 16th century and were used mostly by men to hold tobacco or snuff. They were not called pill boxes but snuff boxes and were neat little items that could be easily tucked into a pocket or hand bag.
Often pillboxes or snuff boxes were highly decorated in the same way all items of the period were embellished, with gold gilding, precious stones, filigree, carving, inlay, cameos, and intaglio. Our beautiful Rose Butterfly Pill Box is reminiscent of those days gone by with a Victorian look all its own. é The silver tone box is rounded and tapers slightly toward the lid, with a small push button snap opening. é Lid design has a mother of pearl look in white, with roses in varying shades of pink from pale to deep rose, and a single butterfly is aloft. é The lid has a mirrored interior.
